Day 1 in California! Woo Hoo!

Woke up to a foggy, cloudy, cool morning. The cat came into my bed and snuggled and purred and generally made me feel like the most important person I the world. I spent a few minutes taking in the scenery. The house has a lovely garden and amazing views. In typical Bay Area style the driveway is ridiculously steep.

Benna had fun getting to know the boys, Zack and Josh, and of course the animals.

After a relaxed morning and some great coffee, Benna and I accepted Jonathan's offer of some sailing.   Once we got going, the wind took us along with great force and we had an excellent sail! The views were wonderful, the Richmond bridge to the north, Berkeley and Oakland to the east, SanFrancisco and theGolden Gate Bridge to the south and west.

After we got back we had lunch and the skies cleared. Karen showed me the garden, full of fruit trees (apple, lemon, persimmon, and apricot) and also berries and plenty of poison oak. Then we took a great hike on Ring Mountain, just up the road from the house. The area is known for very unique rock formations, like Split Rock. Josh had told me that it was a popular bouldering rock and he was right.

There are also some unique flowers growing there, like theCalifornia Poppy.

The views were spectacular, and even San Quentin prison looked nice in the golden California sunshine!

Benna was getting tired and a bit cranky (to be fair, I forgot to bring water or snacks, so that didn't help!) So we cut the hike short and headed back to the car. But it was a lovely hike and a great start to our vacation!
